Séan Farrell
Séan Farrell (Musical Director) trained at the University of York and the Royal Academy of Music. His organ teachers included Christopher Bowers-Broadbent, Nicholas Danby and Naji Hakim – with whom he studied at La Trinité in Paris through the support of the Eric Thompson Trust.
During 10 years as a Cathedral Organist Séan played or conducted almost every day, and was one of the early pioneers of the Cathedral Girls Choir movement, He has appeared as an organ soloist in the Channel Islands, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Czeck Republic, Holland, and the USA. Closer to home he has given recitals in many of the country's Cathedrals, including Canterbury, Ely, London (St Paul’s, Southwark, Westminster Abbey & Westminster Cathedral), Rochester, St Albans, Tewkesbury Abbey and Wakefield as well as at numerous concert halls and college chapels.
As a conductor, Séan has conducted much of the mainstream oratorio and chamber choir repertoire. His choirs have appeared on BBC Radios 2, 3 and 4, on television and on commercial recordings and in churches and concert halls throughout Europe and the USA. In 2001 Séan was appointed Director of Music at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel, a post which allowed him to design and found an entirely new musical tradition. At the heart of this is the Old Royal Naval College Chapel choir, which sings a fully choral Eucharist each Sunday, but Séan also directs the Trinity Choral Scholars and Greenwich Baroque Orchestra.
Séan Farrell is Head of Performance Studies at Trinity College of Music, where he also leads the organ department. He is an active recording producer, and is also studying for a PhD at the University of York, where his research relates to performance practice in the performance of JS Bach’s organ music.
