Jenny Bullock

View ImageFollowing a degree in Microbiology with Immunology, Jennifer Bullock (Principal cello) went on to further her musical interests, undertaking postgraduate studies in cello with Lowri Blake at the Royal College of Music for 2 years. It was during her time there that Jennifer developed a passion for early music, taking up both the viol and baroque cello, which she subsequently studied with Alison Crum and Susan Sheppard at Trinity College of Music, London.

Whilst at Trinity, she became firmly established in the early music world, winning the intercollegiate Harriet Cohen Memorial Music Award 2003, and gaining a coveted place on the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment/Jerwood Experience for Young Players 2003/2004. Since completing her studies in June 2004, she has been enjoying a busy schedule of teaching and performing, playing in the UK, Europe and the Far East with both established and emerging ensembles including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The Sixteen, the Marésienne Consort, Schola Pietatis Antonio Vivaldi and Fleuri. She has recorded television programmes on Vivaldi and Handel for BBC television, performed live on BBC Radio 3 and played at Glyndebourne with the OAE throughout the summer 2006 season.

Jennifer has held scholarships at both the RCM and TCM, generously supported by The Drapers’ Company, Beverly Creed, Etherington and TCM funds. She plays a seven-string bass viol modelled on Bertrand’s 1701 viol, made by Jane Julier and purchased with the kind assistance of the Wolfson Foundation and the Loan Fund for Musical Instruments, a six-string bass viol made by Renate Fink in 2007, and a cello by Thomas Smith, restored to eighteenth-century setup by John Topham.
