"...a riveting experience"
(Musical Pointers: Greenwich International Early Music Festival 2008)
Leading specialists in the field of period performance practice and education, Greenwich Baroque delivers a multilayered brief:
- excellence and freshness on the concert platform;
- a transitional performance pathway for students from Music Conservatoires into the performing profession;
- a unique educational experience for the Trinity College of Music Choral and Organ Scholars;
- opportunities for members of the Old Royal Naval College Chapel Choir to perform with a professional period instrument orchestra at the highest level;
- continued research into performance practice, including authenticity of stringing;
- exploration into, and ultimately commissioning of, new works for period instruments/choir.
Founded in Greenwich in 2003 with the support of the Greenwich Foundation, the group has a strong association with the Old Royal Naval College and aims to develop site specific programmes which relate to the extraordinary Baroque Architecture, Naval associations, local composers and Astronomy. Existing at Trio, Chamber Ensemble and full 18th century Orchestra levels, Greenwich Baroque’s performances have included a concert series at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel, the Greenwich International Festival of Early Music and performances of Handel and Vivaldi at the Emilia Romagna Festival (2007).
